Kitchenware traders need the legal guarantee notice since 27 September 2026. The GARAN label is added when the producer guarantees the entire product for more than two years at no extra cost. If the guarantee excludes a pan’s coating, it is open whether it still covers the entire good.

Which labels do traders need for kitchen and cookware?
This covers frying pans, pots, knives, food processors, blenders, kettles, toasters and coffee machines. There are two official EU graphics:
- Legal guarantee notice: always. Since 27 September 2026, every trader who sells goods to consumers must point out the legal guarantee of conformity, online and in physical shops. The graphic is fixed and must not be changed.
- GARAN label: only with a matching producer guarantee. The producer guarantees the entire good for more than two years at no extra cost and makes this information available to you. Then the label appears next to the product and directly before the order.
Typical guarantees for kitchen and cookware: GARAN label or not?
| Guarantee | GARAN label? |
|---|---|
| 10-year producer guarantee on the entire pan, free of charge | Yes |
| 10 years on the pan body, coating excluded | Open exclusions not regulated |
| “Lifetime” guarantee on knives | Open unlimited guarantee not regulated |
| 5 years on the food processor’s motor only | No not the entire good |
| 3 years on the entire food processor, free of charge | Yes |
| Satisfaction guarantee: 30 days money back | No not a guarantee of durability |
“Open” means: Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 and the directive do not expressly deal with the case. Legal advice is worthwhile here. The five conditions in detail: When the GARAN label is mandatory.
Coating excluded: an open case
Cookware guarantees often exclude the non-stick coating. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 does not say whether the guarantee then still covers the entire good. Before you show a GARAN label here, legal advice is worthwhile.
Sets
If you sell a set of pots, the set is the good. If the producer guarantee covers all parts of the set, it covers the entire good. If it only covers individual parts, it does not. The model identifier in the label is then that of the set, if the producer assigns one.
Electric kitchen appliances
For food processors and coffee machines, the same applies as for large household appliances: a guarantee only on the motor is not enough, a free guarantee of more than two years on the entire appliance is.

Frequently asked questions
The guarantee does not cover the coating. Do I need the GARAN label?
That is open. The regulation does not say whether exclusions turn the guarantee into a partial guarantee. Have this checked by a lawyer.
Is a money-back guarantee a guarantee of durability?
No. It does not promise that the product lasts for a certain period; it allows a return. It does not trigger the GARAN label.
Do I need the legal guarantee notice for crockery and cutlery?
Yes. It applies to all goods you sell to consumers.
What goes in the GARAN label for a set of pots?
The producer’s brand, the set’s model identifier and the guarantee period, if the guarantee covers all parts free of charge and runs for more than two years.
