EU warranty label, guarantee label, EmpCo label: the terms
The two graphics go by many names. EU law uses the word “guarantee”; many traders search for “warranty”. Almost always, the same graphics are meant:
- EU guarantee label, EU warranty label, warranty label EU 2026: usually both labels together, sometimes only the GARAN label.
- Legal guarantee notice, warranty notice, guarantee logo or symbol: the harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity.
- GARAN label, durability label: the harmonised label for the producer’s guarantee of durability.
- Guarantee of durability, durability guarantee: the producer’s promise that the GARAN label stands for.
- EmpCo label: both labels, named after the EmpCo Directive (EU) 2024/825 that introduced them.
Important: both graphics are mandatory information, not a quality seal. They do not confirm the quality of a product. They tell customers about their rights.
Since when is the EU guarantee label mandatory?
Since 27 September 2026. The obligation comes from the EmpCo Directive (EU) 2024/825, which amended the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU.
