Add the legal guarantee notice to ePages

ePages Now: use the built-in features

According to the ePages help, the „Benutzerdefiniertes HTML“ (custom HTML) element only works on content and category pages, not on product pages. In ePages Now, use what the shop provides itself. The labels below are those of the German interface:

• Legal guarantee: In the editor, go to „Seiten“ → „Rechtliche Seiten“ (Pages → Legal pages), open the settings of „Gewährleistung“ (legal guarantee) and switch on „Sichtbar im Footer“ (visible in footer). The page is hidden at first.
• GARAN label: On the product, upload the file under „Zusätzliche Produktinformationen“ → „Rechtliches“ → „GARAN-Label“ (Additional product information → Legal → GARAN label), as an image or PDF. You create the file in the GARAN label generator.
• Order email: Under „Einstellungen“ → „E-Mail-Benachrichtigungen“ (Settings → Email notifications), attach the legal documents in the „E-Mail-Anhänge“ (email attachments) tab.

At IONOS, the version you have is shown in the footer of the admin area. The following steps apply to ePages Base.

Step by step in ePages

1. Check your version
   These steps apply to ePages Base, the older version. If you have ePages Now, use the built-in features above.
2. Add the script
   Under „Einstellungen“ → „Allgemeine Einstellungen“ → „Erweiterte Einstellungen“ (Settings → General settings → Advanced settings), insert the line with widget.js in the field „HTML-Head-Bereich“ (HTML head area) and save. It then applies to all pages.
3. Placeholder in the product
   Under „Produkte“ → „Produkte“ (Products → Products), open the item, insert the placeholder <div data-garantielabel></div> in the „Erweiterte Beschreibung“ (extended description) via „Quellcode“ (source code), apply and save.
4. Check
   Refresh the page cache via „Ihre Seite anzeigen“ (view your site) and check the product page. Then open the source code view again: if the placeholder is still there, the editor has not removed it.

Things to know about ePages

• jQuery is already loaded in ePages Base. Do not load it a second time; the widget does not need it.
• Where the extended description appears on the product page depends on the layout (product types → display).
• Since June 2024, STRATO has been selling the SmartWebshop. We have not checked which technology it runs on.

Legal guarantee notice in the order confirmation

According to the Commission’s guidelines, the notice should also appear in the confirmation email. In ePages Now, the shop attaches the legal guarantee notice as a PDF, and according to the help the GARAN label automatically to the order receipt confirmation. In ePages Base, you can edit the dashed areas of the emails under „Einstellungen“ → „E-Mail-Ereignisse“ (Settings → Email events), including with images. A plain link is unlikely to count as a durable medium (CJEU, Case C-49/11, Content Services); the safest way is to put the notice directly in the email as an image, text or attachment.
