OTTO shows the official notice on the legal guarantee itself: on 5 October 2026 it was on the terms and conditions page and the service page, linked in the footer of every page. For the GARAN label, you maintain the producer guarantee as an attribute and upload the guarantee terms as a PDF. We have not yet been able to confirm whether OTTO then shows the label on the product page.
What OTTO Market shows itself
On 5 October 2026 we checked otto.de ourselves. The official graphic „Gesetzliche Gewährleistung“ (legal guarantee) appears in the terms and conditions of OTTO Market and on the service page about the legal guarantee. The link „Gesetzliche Gewährleistung“ in the footer leads there from every page, including product pages. We did not find the graphic directly on the product pages.
According to IT-Recht Kanzlei, OTTO has been rolling out the notice centrally since 27 September 2026, without any action from sellers, and shows the GARAN label when the guarantee fields are maintained in the offer. However, on 5 October 2026 we found no GARAN label on two product pages sold by OTTO itself, one of them with „Herstellergarantie Gesamtprodukt: 3 Jahr(e)“ (producer guarantee, whole product: 3 years). We found no announcement from OTTO itself; the help centre for partners is only accessible after signing in.
What you enter for the GARAN label
The GARAN label applies to products for which the producer gives a commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years, free of charge, for the whole good. For this, OTTO Market needs the following details:
| Detail | Field on OTTO Market |
|---|---|
| Brand | brand from OTTO’s brand list (brandId, no free text) |
| Model | product line (productLine) or manufacturer part number (mpn); which field OTTO uses for the label is not documented |
| Duration of the producer guarantee | category attribute, shown on otto.de as „Herstellergarantie Gesamtprodukt“ (producer guarantee, whole product), plus the guarantee terms as a PDF (MANUFACTURER_WARRANTY) |
The exact attribute names are in OTTO’s category definitions, which can only be viewed with API access. According to a specialist blog, there is a separate attribute „Bedingte Herstellergarantie“ (conditional producer guarantee) for guarantees with conditions or covering only parts. The GARAN label only applies to a guarantee covering the whole good.
Your own graphic in images or the description?
- Product images: The official image requirements are in the partner portal behind the sign-in. According to feed and agency providers, text, logos and seals are not allowed on product images.
- Description: HTML with a limited selection of tags, fewer than 2,000 characters (API documentation).
Based on everything that is publicly known, a label as a separate product image is therefore not a solution. The guarantee data in the offer is what matters.
Where you still need the GARAN label yourself
The marketplace only shows the labels in its own listings. Everywhere else, it is up to you:
- Your own online shop: On Shopify, the app adds the legal guarantee notice automatically, and the GARAN label as soon as the producer and the guarantee are entered. For other systems, there is the free widget.
- Physical shop: In print, the GARAN label must be at least 95 × 100 mm, in colour or black and white, and the legal guarantee notice at least A4 (Annexes I and II of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960). More in our printing guide.
- Catalogues, data sheets, packaging: voluntary, but often requested, for example by distributors.
You create the print files in the GARAN label generator from the guarantee duration, brand and model, free and without sign-up.
Check the display yourself
The obligation lies with the trader, on a marketplace too. So take a look at one of your own listings:
- Does the official graphic appear unchanged and in colour?
- Is the GARAN label shown with the product if the producer gives a commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years free of charge? Online, the directive places it directly next to the picture of the good (recital 28 of Directive (EU) 2024/825).
- Are the brand, model and guarantee duration on the label correct?

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to add the legal guarantee notice on OTTO myself?
According to IT-Recht Kanzlei, no: OTTO rolls it out centrally. We saw the official graphic on otto.de in the terms and conditions and on the service page, linked in the footer of every page.
How does my product get the GARAN label?
Maintain the producer guarantee as an attribute („Herstellergarantie Gesamtprodukt“) and upload the guarantee terms as a PDF. Check on one of your own offers whether OTTO then shows the label on the product page. In our spot check on 5 October 2026 it was not visible.
May I upload the GARAN label as a product image?
According to the publicly known image rules, text, logos and seals are not allowed on product images. You will find the binding requirements in OTTO’s partner portal.
