eBay automatically adds the legal guarantee notice to eligible listings from business sellers. For the GARAN label, you enter the brand, model and the durability guarantee in whole years in the item specifics.
What eBay shows itself
According to eBay’s help page, eBay automatically adds the “EU Legal Guarantee” to all eligible listings from business sellers. eBay may hide listings that do not meet the requirements.
What you enter for the GARAN label
The GARAN label applies to products for which the producer gives a commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years, free of charge, for the whole good. For this, eBay needs the following details:
| Detail | Field on eBay |
|---|---|
| Brand | item specific “Brand” |
| Model | item specific “Model” |
| Durability guarantee | whole years from 3 to 99; the field only appears in eligible categories and for listings aimed at the EU |
Half years such as 2.5 cannot be entered on eBay, although they are allowed on the GARAN label itself.
Your own graphic in images or the description?
- Photos: Added text, artwork, borders or watermarks are not allowed.
- Description: Static HTML is allowed, active content such as JavaScript is not. Images in the description must be served over HTTPS and be no more than 700 pixels wide.
- Links: External links are generally prohibited, with an exception for information required by law.
An additional graphic in the description would therefore be possible, but it is not needed if eBay shows both labels.
Where you still need the GARAN label yourself
The marketplace only shows the labels in its own listings. Everywhere else, it is up to you:
- Your own online shop: On Shopify, the app adds the legal guarantee notice automatically, and the GARAN label as soon as the producer and the guarantee are entered. For other systems, there is the free widget.
- Physical shop: In print, the GARAN label must be at least 95 × 100 mm, in colour or black and white, and the legal guarantee notice at least A4 (Annexes I and II of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960). More in our printing guide.
- Catalogues, data sheets, packaging: voluntary, but often requested, for example by distributors.
You create the print files in the GARAN label generator from the guarantee duration, brand and model, free and without sign-up.
Check the display yourself
The obligation lies with the trader, on a marketplace too. So take a look at one of your own listings:
- Does the official graphic appear unchanged and in colour?
- Is the GARAN label shown with the product if the producer gives a commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years free of charge? Online, the directive places it directly next to the picture of the good (recital 28 of Directive (EU) 2024/825).
- Are the brand, model and guarantee duration on the label correct?
